Axiomatic develops a new RS-232 to CAN Converter with 2 digital inputs, programmable “frame format”, and ASCII support for interfacing with RS-232 satellite phones, printers, or other devices on a vehicle CAN network.
The RS-232 to CAN Converter, AX030355, is a compact, rugged media converter designed with an IP67 rating for interfacing RS-232 devices with SAE J1939 CAN bus networks in on-road commercial vehicles or other machines. The RS-232 to CAN bidirectional converter features one RS-232 port and two fully isolated SAE J1939 CAN ports with auto-baud-rate detection.
The RS-232 serial port interface is provided with a user configurable frame forwarding system to convert serial port messages into CAN frames. The “frame format” is programmable, providing the controller the ability to parse the information at the RS-232 receiver. The two fully isolated CAN interfaces feature user configurable CAN-ID filtering and frame forward systems to convert CAN frames into serial port messages. By default, the primary CAN port supports SAE J1939 messaging, uses passive baud rate discovery to detect CAN network baud rate, and is capable of converting CAN ID and CAN data into ASCII format to produce readable text, for example, to a serial terminal application on a PC.
The AX030355 converter operates with a power input of 12 or 24 VDC nominal (9 to 36 VDC) and accepts two signal inputs to measure frequency/RPM, PWM, and digital signals. Measured input data can be sent to an SAE J1939 network or used to enable/disable frame forwarding. The media converter is user configurable via the Axiomatic Electronic Assistant, P/N: AX070506K.

Featuring more power (720 W), the AX081850 operates from 12 to 36 VDC and regulates output voltage of 24 VDC ± 2%. The converter features reverse battery, over-voltage, under-voltage, short circuit, and over current protection, and operates with an efficiency of 95%. A rugged enclosure and interface utilizing TE Deutsch connectors ensures reliability in harsh applications.
AX081850 — 24VDC to 24VDC, 720W Converter
The smaller AX083140, operates from 8 to 36 VDC with an output power of 50 W and an output voltage of 24 VDC ± 0.3%. The power converter features 600 VDC isolation from input to output. Protections include reverse battery, over-voltage, under-voltage, short circuit, and over current protection. Operational efficiency is 88% (at 24 VDC input), and a 4-pin TE Deutsch connector. The standard rugged enclosure and a TE Deutsch connector are features of our product line to protect against water and dust ingress.
AX083140 — 24VDC to 24VDC, 50W Isolated Converter

The Axiomatic Gigabit Automotive Ethernet to Gigabit Ethernet Switch, AX141510, is a 4-port switch that enables communication between three 1000BASE-T1 Automotive Ethernet ports and one 1000BASE-T Ethernet port. Axiomatic Technologies Corporation has developed a range of temperature scanners that can be reliably used in even the harshest environments.
The AX180800 Temperature Scanner monitors up to 20 thermocouples and 2 RTD’s to provide the temperature information to the engine control system over SAE J1939 CAN bus. The channels are independently configurable as Type J, K, B, E, N, R, S or T thermocouples. Temperature information can include exhaust temperature, winding temperature, and fluid temperature monitoring. All 20 channels of temperature data are automatically sent over the CAN bus when power is applied with no additional programming or configuration required.
In addition to the TC and RTD inputs, there are 4 universal signal command inputs and 6 Form C relay outputs. Integral diagnostics determine thermocouple integrity. All inputs are fully isolated from the CAN lines, and from the power supply. The two CAN channels are fully isolated from one another in the hardware which allows for different CAN networks to be connected. In the software, each will also act independently where incoming or outgoing messages can be configured to receive or send on a specific CAN channel. Modbus TCP/IP communications are also available.
The scanner is enclosed in a rugged IP67 rated enclosure and is suitable for use in control systems for industrial and marine power generator sets.
